'Just Once' Therapy

'Just Once' Therapy is based on the thinking of Windy Dryden and Irvin Yalom; two of the world's most renowned psychotherapists and writers on therapy issues.

in 'Just Once' Therapy we agree to meet just once!
It's designed to provide support quickly and efficiently, allowing you to leave the session with a plan for moving forward. You can of course choose to have more sessions if you elect to do so

Which issues can 'Just Once' Therapy help with?

'Just Once' therapy can help to address all the same issues that are addressed in other forms of therapy. The difference is that we would work with some urgency and a shared focus right from the first moment, to help you to take away what you have come for, on the issue you have chosen to discuss with me.

Is 'Just Once' Therapy right for me?

'Just Once' Therapy might well be for you if you feel stuck in an emotional or behavioural problem and are looking for a very focussed and pragmatic way to get unstuck.
It is more likely to be a 'good fit'' for you if:
  • You have a specific issue and feel motivated to work on it, rapidly and intensively;
  • You  are seeking a focussed, pragmatic, solution-focused approach;
  • Ongoing regular therapy is not an option for some reason;

 If you are looking for ongoing therapy sessions to address your problems, have a look at my What is Person-centred and Experiential Therapy? page.

What does 'Just Once' Therapy involve?

If you choose 'Just Once' therapy, I will send you information and a short form to complete. At the beginning of the session, I will check that you understand the purpose of the session, and if so, help you to clarify what you want from it. We will then agree on a focus for the meeting, which is usually the issue for which you seek help.

It is my responsibility to actively help us both keep to this focus and to support you to discover a potential solution to the problem.  We can then rehearse it in the session to see if it feels right for you. If it does, we will develop a plan to implement the solution and clarify with you what is your helpful ‘take-away’ from the session.

What happens after the session?

At the end of the session, there are three options:
  • You conclude that you got what you came for and need no further help;
  • You indicate that you want some time to reflect on the session, put into practice what you learned and then decide if you need further help
  • You decide that you would like further help which might include having another session, having an agreed block of sessions or opting for ongoing therapy.

Think that 'Just Once' therapy might be what you are looking for?
